[SOLVED] Is there any difference between 8th intel generation processors and 11th generation processors?

I currently have the intel 8700k and thinking about getting the intel 11700k with asrock z590 steel legend wifi 6e. As far as performance goes, Will I really see a difference?

Not much at all besides thread count for games that want more, ie Cyber.

Imo, hold onto your system and see how Alder Lake + DDR 5 goes towards the end of this year.

Especially if you are never using any "productivity" .

That's a decent increase in performance.
Both single and multithread performance are quite a bit faster.
Keep in mind the 11700k can run 30 watts hotter.

This really depends on the application. If you're talking about gaming, maybe 1-5 FPS at most.

We are all caught up to GPUs now and alder will not change anything and neither will the next ryzen gen so nothing much will change untill the next performance jump in GPUs.

8700k is 6core/12thread cpu, 11700k is 8core/16thread cpu.
In multi threaded workloads you'll definitely see a difference.
In single threaded workloads difference will be rather small.

The main performance increase would be in multithreaded apps......games....not so much.

Main point was Alder is the beginning of something worth paying attention to. At least for someone with a reasonable modern system looking to upgrade now. 10nm might be efficient enough that high end i9s can be run on air.

DDR 5 speeds should be interesting as well.
