I've got a gtx 1080 strix atm and its too loud for my liking. would a gtx 1060 6gb MSI etc be quiter and cooler?
Gtx 1080 strix reaching 83C @ auto fan speed (in mini itx case)
the other cards are weaker gaming cards and would have to work harder in games then the 1080ti. se if you can add a fan or take off the side panel see if better airflow gets you less noise.
Just underclock your gpu slightly, drop the voltage and do a custom fan curve. You can probably reduce the heat produced a lot by simply reducing performance by 5-10%.
If your ASUS GTX 1080 Strix Gaming is running at 83°C then it's proof of insufficient cooling.
That card, with adequate cooling air supply, usually runs at 68°C even when overclocked.
on auto fan speed it does not go all the way to 100% however.
if I put it manually to 100% fan speed it sounds like a jet engine probably 50db+ and then it sticks to 75C most of the time

my test on 100% fan speed was wrong. I was max getting 60C @ 100% fan speed
Auto fan speed reaches 69% max which gives me 78C
and 50% gives me 88C
100% fan speed = 62db
50% fan speed = 42db
the auto fan curve is a little loud for my liking tho.
