Is there any limit in the processor wattage that a motherboard can handle?

Hi all,
I currently have a MSI ms-7597 ver 1.2, as i hang around the MSI specs site, I found out that this board support maximum 95w processor (AMD phenom ii V6 1065T) : http://www.msi.com/support/mb/GF615MP33_v1.2FOR_EUP.html#support-cpu
*GF615M-P33 V1.2 is the same version as my board.

However there is a later version of this phenom ii V6 processor which uses 125 w (phenom ii V6 1055T and 1090T) http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/desktop/phenom-ii

Will this effect the board at all? can i still use the 125 w one?

They will fit, they will run for a while, but you will probably get lockups and reboots when the CPU is loaded. The power regulator hardware on the motherboard won't be able to support the current required and the voltage will drop and bad things will happen.

If the motherboard vendor says that your motherboard supports 95W CPUs then that is the limit you should follow if you want a stable system.

The wattage you are referring to is Thermal Design Power (TDP).

The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is the average maximum power a processor can dissipate while running commercially available software. TDP is primarily used as a guideline for manufacturers of thermal solutions (heatsinks/fans, etc) which tells them how much heat their solution should dissipate.

A 125 watt CPU will put out to much heat for the motherboard. The motherboard will probably fail from the excessive heat.
