is there any benefit of speed or security to using a uefi biuos instead of regular bios

With Windows 8, it allows for faster boot times - also it avoids legacy option ROM constraints, OS boot partitions > 2TB, PCI device configuration utilities within the OS (not just BIOS), a GUI boot list, support for > 4 partitions on a drive, efficient power and system management and better reliability/fault management.
