Is there any way to reduce the resolution without making the image blurry

So I have a 1440p monitor and a laptop with an 840m for the time being(will get a pc at christmas so the problem hopefully will be irrelevant then). So the issue I have now is that obviously no game runs at 1440p on the laptop. I was wondering if I can downsample it so that it only renders a certain amount of pixels (eg. 3/4 pixels or something). I think this is a technique unique to some monitors but if there's any way of doing it it would be much appreciated.

Solution
Not that I'm aware of, at least not with non-CRT monitors.

I suppose, in theory, that if you downsized it to an even fraction, say, 1/2, so that the resolution drops from 2560x1440 to 1280x720, it might work, but I believe it's a matter of how the monitor itself interpolates it, and the monitor likely will not simply do a doubling of pixels.

Damn, bit of a longshot as thats what I thought. Thanks anyway!

If you disable any sort of image scaling in Nvidia settings, and then choose to run your game at a lower resolution, then I think it should render the game as a rectangle in the middle of the screen surrounded by black bars. Not sure if that's the kind of solution you're looking for.

Not really. it's kinda what I ended up doing in the end. What I was more thinking is how the consoles use upscaling to achieve 1080p. Honestly bdo's textures are so bad on low that I don't mind turning the monitor down to 900p and keeping it fullscreen to get a decent framerate
