Is there anyway to change the powercore explosion and tank shell sounds?
They make my subwoofer rumble a lot which inturn wakes my parents up in the
next room when I play at night... I turn the sound down enough so they can't
hear the subwoofer but then I can barely hear the game at all. Maybe I
should invest in some surround sound headphones?

Yes. Yes, you should.

I highly recommend them for what its worth. UT2K4 and movies sound
great.

Note that there isn't a built-in microphone onto these headphones so
you either need to get some clip-on model or one of those that include
a stand to put in front of you. There are also sticky-holder models
that you can attach to the side of your monitor. Or just don't use
voicechat, I know I don't :)

As for your initial question... I dunno, probably. Someone else might
be able to help with that one. I preferred the demo tanksounds to the
full version's, wouldn't mind changing that one myself.

Yeah, a headset would work, can't you just power off the subwoofer and
use only the tweeters? Many of these sytems have tone controls on the
subwoofer, and/or some control panel or programs app.

Ehm... use an equalizer to filter out the bass?

I guess it's too much common sense to just unplug the thing.

Eh, who wants to be rewiring their setup every time they play UT?
Still, the solution isn't to turn the sound down to an
almost-inaudible level and remove the two most "offensive" sounds, or
to be removing components just to play the game - headphones is the
way to go in that now he'd be able to hear *all* sounds at a decent
volume and not worry about mucking around his install files.

I also suppose it's to much common sense to even allow for the possibility
that the entire speaker system runs through the subwoofer and you can't
unplug it.

Happen to know a program that will do it easily?

My mixer has built-in treble/bass controls. I guess it heavily depends
on your OS, drivers and hardware. Since you mentioned none, it's kinda
hard to guess here.

I ddn't mention it because I've already checked all that and thought maybe
there was a 3rd party program that could do it, thanks anyways.

Whoa.. I just got a pair yesterday from www.Newegg.com for $54 +
tax/shipping ($65) and they rock!! Make sure you don't use the
onboard sound if you motherboard has that. It was a lot better when I
ran them through my old Audgiy card. (thinking of updating to Audigy 2
LZ now..)

They are well worth the money and will solve your problem. The only
thing I don't like is that I can't easily switch between speakers and
the headphones without crawling under my desk to plug in my speakers
instead of the headphones. Maybe a switch or t-split adapter on the
front channel will allow me to run both at the same time.

I have a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe and I could hear cd-rom spin up and
hard-drive activity when I first booted up. Once in game I didn't
notice it as much. I figured out what plugs to use on my OLD Audigy
'gamer' card and it seems a lot better to me. One point is since they
are headphones its alot more easier to hear this problem then using
speakers I think.

Use a good quality head phone, idiot! Surprised, your parents didn't
kick your behind yet!
I would, if you wake me up with your stupid surround speakers!

Open the box and install a switch on the subwoofer driver?
