I'm a first time builder, so I have little experience and was wondering if my build makes sense. Is there anything that I could change that wouldn't affect performance and still make it cheaper? The maximum I can spend on the PC only is 1700 USD. Thanks in advance.

$110 for that power supply? Oh dear. you can pretty much get a Corsair RM for $120, maybe less with a discount.

You don't need that cooler at all for an F CPU

Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition CPU Air Cooler $49.99
The regular 212 is like $25 and it's the same as that... what a ripoff honestly, twice the price for some LEDs, just wow.

The Phanteks P300A mesh case is way better in terms of airflow and costs less.

Other than that you could downgrade the CPU or go for an AMD if you're not an extremely loyal fanboy or something.

He's going with the LED theme so I stuck to it otherwise I agree .. cheaper to go non LED. btw I highly doubt Corsair offers a 850w semi modular psu for under $130.

-Picked a cpu with integrated graphics. If you don't already have that gpu, you'll at least be able to have an operable PC while you wait hunt for a gpu.
-Chosen cpu and cpu cooler is imbalanced. That cpu is no joke, even if it's the non-K version. That's the other reason I stepped it down to an i5.
-Subpar psu. Ampere is hot and hungry, especially xx80 and xx90.

I couldn't find an RM850 in stock anywhere for a reasonable price, and the RMx is a bit more expensive so it goes over my budget. I chose the CoolerMaster case since it comes with 2 fans and the front is mesh anyway so I thought it would be fine. And the Ryzen equivalent for the 10900F seems to be the 3800x, which is almost $100 more expensive right now.

The 3800X is a dog for gaming. In fact the Intel 10400F paired w/B560 board and 3200Mhz RAM mops the floor with any AMD cpu below a 5600X in regards to gaming.

Here's your best options.

B560 board and 3200Mhz RAM paired with either of these cpus ... obviously the i7 is going to beat out the i5 but either of these cpu's are a solid choice. btw do you need Wi Fi?

What does dog mean in that metaphor?

Thanks for the help, but I would l like to get the most performance I can out of my budget. Wouldn't a 10400F and a 10700F both be downgrades compared to a 10900F? Would there be any CPU that might offer even better performance for a similar price? And by the way, in response to your original comment, I'm planning to use this primarily for gaming with a 1440p 144hz monitor and I live in the United States.

The i9 is a good way to go if you plan on using your build for video editing, photoshop, etc ... but if this build is primarily for gaming then the i7 would be my choice.

In the techpowerup benchmarks you linked for the i7, how does a 10700 outperform a 10900K and 9900K in so many of those?
