Hi, I just found a nice deal for 1TB M2 but its 110mm and not 80mm.. So what I thought about is just getting an adapter like this

Xiwai NGFF M.2 M-Key NVME AHCI SSD to PCI-E 3.0 16x 4X Adapter for 110mm 80mm SSD
  • NGFF M.2 M-key NVME AHCI SSD to PCI-E 3.0 16x x4 Adapter for 110mm 80mm SSD
  • Features: 1.M key M.2 NGFF SSD to PCIe x16/X4 adapter.
  • 2.The speed and other properties is not changed, only form conversion interface. 3.Support Type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 type M.2 Card dimension.
  • 4.Transparent to the operating system and does not require any software drivers.
  • System requirement: 1.Motherboard: Z97 or later 2.Windows 10 or later
My motherboard is ASUS Prime B350 Plus , I think the second PCIE is slower than my primary PCIE slot because few days ago I connected my gpu to the second slot instead primary slot and the performance went down.. So maybe it will not fit the ssd properly cause it meant to be for PCIE 3 and not PCIE 2...? Please help me and excuse my ignorance

Thanks

EDIT: just found some details on my motherboard: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/B1LcMwlCNGS.pdf
from what I understand its 2 slots both PCIE2 but one with 16x and one with 4x.. so i just want to make sure it will fit properly because the adapter title is cleary mentioned 4X adapter

First PCIE x16 depends on cpu installed. It can be PCIE 3.0 x16, x8 or x4. Since you haven't specified your cpu, not possible to answer, what mode is available.

Second PCIE x16 slot is PCIE 2.0 x4 mode. It's slower than PCIE 3.0 slot.

It's a pcie 3.0 8x lane.
And yes that's totally fine, there are lots of cards like that.
Thanks! so I'm buying both of these okay?

  1. Timetec Liteon OEM 960GB SSD 3D NAND TLC NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 22110 110mm 1367TBW Read Up to 1,700MB/s DRAM Cache Mavell Industry Controller Internal SSD Solid State Drive (Length Longer Than 2280
  2. Xiwai NGFF M.2 M-Key NVME AHCI SSD to PCI-E 3.0 16x 4X Adapter for 110mm 80mm SSD

Your motherboard supports 110mm long M.2 drives too.
So - there's no need for that adapter (unless you want to install multiple M.2 drives).

oh nice to know! I actually have M2 already but i want another one exactly like you said..
