Question Is there hope for my Asus Prime x399-A - Overcurrent fail

A nasty bit of hardware did a nasty on one of my USB ports and it is now stuck giving me that overcurrent error message. I've located the blown component on the board and I'm wondering if it might be possible to just remove the component, turn the short into an open, lose the USB port but regain function in an otherwise fine motherboard.
