Is there much between the Radeon 7950 vs R9 280X?

I'm running a Sapphire Radeon 7950, is it really worth upgrading to a 7970 or R9 280X?

R9 280X is 30% faster but 7950 is not bad at all . The upgrade is not worth .

No at all,it's not worthwhile upgrade.I would suggest stick with hd 7950 now which is good enough for 1080p gaming. and upgrade gpu when next gen gpu will be out

If you're considering this because of miners willing to pay exorbitant price for your 7950, make sure you can actually get a 280X in stock for the money.

you are way better off getting a second 7950 and crossfire them. Would be a huge performance increase over the 280x

it would be fine but crossfire wont run some games .

I think these days plays most. inc any game that uses frost bite engine battlefield. but of course some wont indie game for example

Except the 7950 is no longer in production and you can only get second hand cards for exorbitant prices. So you might end up with a dead/faulty product with no warranty.

Most high end games support Crossfire but even then it has issues yet to be fixed by AMD. In casual/indie games a single 7950 is already overkill.

You are right. It isnt worth getting a 7950. But I dont think its worth upgrading to a 280x either.

If you really want an upgrade why not get one of the new R9's and crossfire it with your 7950. The 280x is equivalent to a 7970 ghz edition and compatible to crossfire with 7 series cards. While your 7950 is slightly slower, even with the R9 dropping down to the speed of your 7950 you'll still get a nice performance boost in games that support crossfire, and can run the R9 alone for games that dont.
