Assuming the 3090 benchmarks come out and are in line with community expectations, is it still the case that there is limited upside to buying two of them for the sake of getting better gaming performance due to limited SLI support in games now?

Why does the 3090 support NVLink but not the 3070 and 3080 for instance? Is there a reason it's only limited to the 3090? Why even have it at all?

Solution
There is 0 reason to get 2 3080s.
It will cost more than a 3090, and at best perform the same, and at worse, perform less than a 3080 alone.

Nvidia is slowly killing SLI, since its just a hassle for developer to code for, and with each year gpu pricing going up, the chances of someone buying 2 cards is getting slimmer.

They keep it for the top end card, since thats the only thing that makes sense.

If you want the maximum performance, get 2 3090s, but 2 3080s would not make sense.

Its mostly kept on the 3090 as a novelty for the "more money than brain" or more likely, for cool tech shows.

He said two 3090's not two 3080's. You can't even SLi 3080's. Only 3090's can Sli (or NVLink if you want to be technical).

I don't see the point of multi-gpu setups for gamers anymore. If a single 3090 can do 8K at 60fps, how much more video card do you really need?
