Is there something wrong with my GPU?

Usually, being a beta doesn't mean much in terms of driver quality. That doesn't mean that the drivers aren't the issue nor that if they are, the issue necessarily won't be fixed in the full release; it's just that betas usually aren't inherently much less stable.

Other than faulty drivers and faulty GPUs, the issue could also be caused by faulty memory, bad temps on the GPU, bad temps on the memory, and probably some other things that I'm forgetting. As of right now, the temps are probably the easiest to look into and trying older driver versions is also fairly easy.

The GPU temps are very easy to check (just look at them with a few different programs to establish the approximation that is most often reported because sometimes a single program or two can be wacky for osme reason). Memory temps are a little more difficult because these are not recorded by any sensors and are therefor not displayed by any programs, but you can troubleshoot the memory with some accuracy by dropping memory frequency significantly (decreasing the heat generated by the memory) and checking the impact on the artifacts.

Well I'm having a hard time reproducing those problems, but I am also having some weird transparent lines on fallout 3, so I'll try 13.1 drivers and see if those go away. I did notice my fans speeding up a lot for no reason while I was in the menu of the same game where I got the texture artifacts or whatever, not sure if that was related.

It doesn't prove either of them outright, but it does support the theories of heat and/or driver issues causing the problem.

I agree with the heat issues suggested by blaz
Artifacts are pretty common when there are thermal or voltage anomalies with graphics cards. Check the airflow of your case, check the card's clock speed and monitor its temps.

If that isn't it, then you may have got a faulty card, but its really unlikely

Well temps seem fine, they're not going above 60 degrees. No overclocks, so it's at 1050. I am having a hard time reproducing the artifacting, so I guess I'll just have to see if it happens again. I installed 13.1 drivers now, maybe that will help.

OK so I tried seeing what I could do to fix the Fallout 3 problem I was having so I changed the resolution from 1920x1080 (native) to 1600x900 and the problem is now gone.. I am unsure as if this means that there is something wrong with my gpu or my game. I've also seen some random black and purple object just flash for like a millisecond across my screen. That has happened on Fallout 3 and Skyrim now... Starting to think there is something wrong with my card 🙁

Well I am now starting to regret RMAing my old for coil whine. 🙁 Oh well I guess I'll have to begin the search for a good GPU again since the vapor x is discontinued of newegg and went up in price quite a bit on amazon.

The thing about getting a replacement from sapphire though is that I don't want to be without a GPU for a couple weeks. Are there any 7970s that you recommend? I was looking at a 680, but I go over 2 GB of vram on skyrim, so 7970 is probably best for me.

That depends. Are you against overclocking? If so, then I'd recommend a Gigabyte Radeon 7970 WindForce X3. If not, then I'd recommend getting the Radeon 7950 WindForce X3 instead and overclocking it. They have pretty much identical headroom, as is common for 7950s and 7970s (WindForce X3 models are also among the best and it is supposedly the cooler with the best noise to cooling performance ratio of the non-reference, stock coolers), so the 7970 is only worth buying if you're against significant overclocking. The 7950 is currently a little under $300 and the 7970 is currently at $400.

yea 7970 would be better option for you. the 680 4GB won't push its self alone to use the 4GB. but a 680 2GB is good if your not using a ton of texture packs

Just going to update this thread to say that the problems are now gone. I haven't noticed anything in Arma 2 (except for all the graphical problems that are due to the arma 2 engine) and it appears using overscan in CCC was causing problems. I set that to 0 and fixed the aspect ratio on my TV/monitor instead and my fallout 3 problems are gone. Also flickering seems to be a widespread problem for the 7000 series cards in dx9 games, so I can't blame my card there. Happy to know that it wasn't a problem with my card 😀
