Hello! earlier I created a thread here about my Kingston Hyper X Fury Ram which apparently died and stopped working since I couldn't even get past the POST screen [DDR 3 1600mhz 8gb single stick] which is a second hand or hand-me-down. The other Ram stick is still in working condition. Anyway, to cut the story short, I was forced to buy a new 16gb kit VALUE RAM from kingston without heat spreaders so it looked naked... then I decided to clean the old Hyper X ram with RUBBING ALCOHOL giving it a last chance before I decide to throw it away. IT WORKED and it came back to life!

However, it is installed alone without the other Hyper X ram and CPU-Z is reporting that it is in DUAL CHANNEL?! Also I installed it on the RAM slot nearest to the CPU which is probably SLOT-1 but it is showing SLOT-3?

Here is a screenshot: https://ibb.co/PC6DLC3

should I stop using this ram? is it faulty? thanks

good question run memtest86 and find out if it is good. If it passes I'd use it...if not, trash can.

edit: don't mix and match ram though. use the hyper x kit or the new kit not both or mixed.

Hello thanks for the quick reply! GOD I LOVE THIS SITE! I ran windows memory diagnostic test and it passed. I also installed the other Hyper X ram and it is working together now! both are at 1600mhz and if I am not mistaken since I re-checked everything both are CL-10 the same timings even the same color!

Is it even possible for a desktop computer to stop recognizing ram if the gold contacts are dirty? well this ram stick was indeed installed on a dirty PC way back [and I haven't cleaned it since until now].
anyway, my spare 16gb kit is there should anything go awry. This is so weird... just... rubbing Alcohol.

OHHhhhhhhh I thought dual rank means dual channel

it is now since I installed the other RAM hyper x! thanks! I wish I can have both of your answers picked. Anyway, one final question... is it possible for a dirty RAM to cause issues such as previously? my PC not detecting it? thanks.

oh yea dirty contacts will do exactly that.
