Is there such thing as too much ventilation?

A friend gave me his Thermaltake Versa I computer case when he upgraded.

I am looking at it, and I am not sure I can use it.

It looks like it holds NINE 120mm fans and it seems like it is all perforated metal.

It seems like it is going to get absolutely filthy inside with it being so open. I have no intention of using 9 fans.

Is it designed so this many should be used? If I only use a few, is all that open metal actually counter-productive? Would the fans even be effective?

Would you recommend using the case anyway? Should I maybe try to find a way to cover up/tape all that open metal?

Thanks

There is a certain theory that if all the fans blow inward then the dust will be forced outwards, however i did never try this because my computer runs quite hot. i'd be interested to see the rresults if someone is willing to test it maybe with an older or much cooler pc.

However also with regular cleaning (every half year or so) it should be fine. Not that dust really does that much if your pc is cool enough anyway.
