Is this a bottleneck?

Mainboard : Asus M5A88-M
Processor : AMD Athlon II X4 640 @ 3000 MHz
Physical Memory : 8192 MBDDR3-SDRAM
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Hard Disk : Western Digital WD75 00AZRX-00A8LB0 SATA Disk Device (750GB)
Monitor Type : Hewlett Packard HP w2207 - 22 inches

I'm dying to play GTA V and Watch Dogs but, I'm not sure whether or not my system can run those game on max settings.

I've built this PC myself 2 years or so ago and recently learned about bottlenecking.

Is my CPU holding my GPU back? Or is my GPU simply outdated?

Should i throw 250$ at a GeForce GTX 760, something twice as powerful than what i have right now or upgrade my CPU?

IMO, I'm sure there's a bottleneck somewhere because, i have never been impressed with my 460 GTX even back when it was the best graphic card on the market for the $$$.

Solution
You should drop an FX-6300 in your current motherboard, and upgrade your GPU to a GTX 660 - $330 total. Then you don't have to get a new PSU, and you're ready for anything the next-gen consoles dish out. Well, as long as you don't mind using FXAA in newer games instead of MSAA.

Hey
your cpu is quad core. You dont need to upgrade it now.
Better to go with gtx 760. Bcs with this cpu you will see much difference in gaming with upgrade ur gpu.
After cpu the gpu is most important part of any pc. Now ur cpu is good just need better gpu.
Yes ur gpu is simply outdated.
I hope it helps.
Thank you.

Both GPU and processor are actually quite out-of-date.
However, I see that you do not have to get all at once.
Most games relies more on GPU better than the proc, I would first put my bet on getting a new GPU and see first how things are going.
If the games are better and relative good playable, I would keep the upgrade only on the GPU and plan the proc upgrade later.
If the games are still not really comfortably playable, I would plan immediately the next upgrade and the upgrade will be proc and mobo.

I hope it helps.
Thank you.

Alright then, I'll buy a Galaxy GeForce GTX 760 GC 1110MHZ 2GB GDDR5 and a new non modular PSU.

The one i have right now is a mess, it has trouble reaching the far end of my motherboard inside a mid tower and with this beast inside, there's no way in hell it's gonna reach it.

Maybe my tower just sucks cause I've never seen a PSU positioned at the bottom before.

I'd recommend getting a new vid card,(not a gtx 760,cause that would be a huge bottleneck!)preferably something like a 560ti or a 550ti,or you could even try with an hd 7850.If that still doesn't work, you will need to upgrade both your CPU and your motherboard. To tell you the truth, that amd proc does not work like a quad core cpu.Instead,I'd get a cheap(not cheaply made) intel core i5,and a 7870 or a 660/650ti boost, combine it with an ASrock z77 pro 3 mobo, and you are done!

Hope this helps!

Oh boy, oh boy, so i basically have to upgrade my entire system?

Well.. I guess I'm gonna have to sell this computer to someone inexperienced for 500$ and build a new PC from scratch for an extra 200-300$

I'm gonna post the parts whenever i'm done.

No need, simply grab a new GPU, mobo and proc...keep the rest :)

Nice but my built is much better. The question is, do i wanna spend an extra 80$ and go for a GTX 760 at 5000 benchmark or get a 660 at 4200 benchmark and save 80$

It's the kind of questions that keeps me up at night

That's it, i made my choice.

AMD FX-8350 + GTX 660.

The reason why i choose the 8350 is because i won't have to drop another 200$ on a CPU in a couple years when games start using 8 cores.

I'll go with the GTX 660 because even if i choose a 760, I'm still gonna have to change it in 2 years so i might as well save 80$.

I guess i could simply build a PC with all the crap parts in my closet, put my quad core and 460 gtx in there, call it a PC gamer's dream with DDR2 rams and sell it craigslist for 400$ rofl.

The funny thing is it would still be better than a 1000$ computer you purchase at bestbuy.

Great choice and plans - and it's true, if the BestBuy PC comes with an HD 7770.
