Is this a CPU Problem?

Having an issue where if i am playing a game, it may freeze and i cant press ctrl alt del to exit out of it onto my task manager which usually does the trick of unfreezing. All i get is just a black screen.

My next issue is whether or not running games off an portable hard drive like seagent go flex can cause games to freeze.

I ran virus scans and anti malware and everything came up clean so i have no idea why it froze.

It has only happened once. The issue is that i cant press ctrl alt del out of it
