Yes. The R9 280X is a high-end graphics card.

Here are a few samples of performance. These are in 1080p at Ultra with 4xAA. The FPS may seem low on some of these really intensive games, but you can drop the AA or drop quality to High to play them at much higher frame rates.

Crysis 3 - definitely a tough game to please

Was a bit harder to find a good benchmark test for Battlefield 4. Here are some that can help you gauge it.

R9 280X is not listed here but the R9 280X is better than the R9 270X so you know it'll be above that score on High settings...

Here is a Ultra benchmark from techspot. So at Ultra settings at 1200p (a bit larger than 1080p) with 4xMSAA, it gets about 45 FPS average. Again, it can be more if you don't go as heavy on the anti-aliasing.
