So building a HTPC High End Gaming Unit- to stream 4k ultra HD videos and do 4k gaming such as The Division (when released), COD, Battlefield 4, etc- Now this build will be completed in stages as I will be building such units for the bedrooms and later games room. So parts from this unit such as the CPU etc,

So the first bit I will build this unit on is the motherboard, which I think is the best start. The CPU will be a i5 or i7 skylate CPU, and 32GB RAM, later on I will get a GTX980 (to swap to for the 4k video and gaming) Also I need to take into account I will be connected this to my surround sound Onyko Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. Also a SSD for the OS and a 2TB for gaming storage etc. There will also be a TV Tuner which will also have DVR-

So will for my build GIGABYTE Z170X-GAMING 7 be the best to put in place to start. Remembering I want it to be able to handle 4k, HEVEC, HDR, H.265 HDMI 2.0a etc...most of this I know will come from the GPU later so I can wait on this. But I want the board not be a bottle neck. So will this board with Intel Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt be of use or is there something better that I can go with

Yeah, it´s a great board - it has everything you could wish for without it being a server mobo, a cheaper alternative that will do the job fine too is MSI Krait Z170.

It´s a great mobo.
- Lots of features
- Good overclocking
- Decent onboard audio
- big space between PCIe slots (for huge graphics card i.e.)
- 2 x M.2 SSD slots

I have a GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 / same series, I am a happy owner - even though their flagship mobos are pricy.
