Is this a good build for £700?

That's the pcpartpicker list, I am aiming to upgrade the motherboard and CPU first as I am currently running a GB H61M-S2PV with a Pentium G630, and then upgrade from 4GB to 8GB of RAM. Is what I've got good for the money? I already have the graphics card so I'll keep that for now

You wouldn't need a Z97 as you can't overclock. So try an i5-4690 and a H97 motherboard. Best pick IMO if you don't overclock an Intel build.

Is that what the letters mean? On the Z97 I could but on the H97 I couldn't, still kinda new at this mostly went for the Z97 as that's what I'd seen in lots of other builds

Basically these are chipsets "specialised" for the user's need.

If you have a locked CPU, then a Z97 is not needed and a H97 chipset will do. If you overclock your unlocked CPU, then get a Z97.

OK in that case do you think it would be worth spending the extra £5 to get the 4670K?

Also if I were to overclock would I need to get a CPU cooler other than the stock one?

Let's not jump into conclusion just yet. Will you overclock? Overclock is making your computer run faster at a higher frequency.

If you are overclocking, I recommend a Z97 paired along with a i5-4690K. If you are not overclocking, I recommend a H97 and a i5-4690.

The i5-4690 or the i5-4690K might perform a few frames better than the i5-4670 or i5-4670K.

I probably won't overclock as soon as I get it built but it'd be nice to know that I can do it in the future. Also I'm trying to future proof a bit with the SLI capability as somewhere down the road I'd like to upgrade my graphics card.

Price wise from lowest to highest, the 4690K is probably just over what I'd ideally like to pay for the CPU.

As you are already familiar with PcPartPicker then here's what you will want to look for to plan for the future.

Get an i5-4670K and slap in a CPU cooler. I recommend a Noctua NH-D14 or a Corsair H100i. But if my money is a deterrent, then try the CM Hyper 212 Evo.

For the motherboard, get a Z97 which supports SLI. I would stay away from MSI die to bad QC (quality control).
