Hmm 500GB HDD. Mods could get crazy. It's addicting. Plan on mods between the two games using up a lot of that HDD if you let it get out of hand, like I did for Skyrim!

Vanilla Skyrim + DLC + just a few mods is over 25GB.

You can expect vanilla Fallout IV to be at least that. If they don't compress the audio, it could easily double up and be in the 50GB range.

Once you factor in mods, you might be using 100 GB of that 500 GB just for two games.

Windows is going to want 20 some GB as a base. If you use a system managed pagefile, and hibernation, you may be tying up another 20 GB of space for that.
