Is this a good build for the price?

Okay so I am planning on ordering parts from newegg soon for my first build, I plan on using the PC mainly for gaming (Mainly Battlefield 3 when it comes out next month) So I will be going down the parts list and explain what I chose what I did




AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz - I needed a good quad-core cpu and from what I have read for gaming cpu isn't as big a deal as the video card.

ASUS ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB - I chose this card because the BF3 specs were released today and the Geforce GTX 560 was the recommended video card.


XION XON-160PCB Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with 500 Watt Power Supply, USB K/B, Optical Mouse, Multimedia Speaker - I chose this case mainly because it was cheap and it came with a PSU mouse keyboard and speakers all of which I currently do not have.

BIOSTAR A870 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard - this is the only part I am kind of worried about, I have read good reviews and bad reviews of it, also it doesn't have any usb 3.0's.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) - Well it's 4 gigs of ram what more can I say.

Seagate Barracuda Green 1TB HDD - nice amount of space for the price.


All for $517.94 (without shipping)

Personally I would choose an AM3+ mobo from a reputable source such as Gigabyte. It will run the Q4 955 and the new Bulldozer CPUs. I've never been impressed with Biostar. RAM is pretty cheap right now. If you can afford 8 GB. in a 2x 4 GB. config. you'll be in slightly better shape with Windoze but it's not mandatory.

The Gigabyte mobo link below might be what you need. It says that it's $89.99 with mail in rebate.

Generally cases bundled with a psu are of poor quality. You said it yourself it was cheap but why cheap out on a component that will power your entire system. If the cpu is the brain of your computer the psu is like the heart so don't cheap out.

get a quality PSU from reliable brands such as Seasonic, Antec, Corsair, XFX (made by seasonic) to name a few.

probably could run this rig on a 550watt psu too from those brands i mentioned
