- Use screen recording software (Camtasia) while playing games on high or medium settings
- Use voice chat software (Team Speak 3) while gaming and recording
- Play music via Windows Media Player or YouTube while gaming
- Moderate to heavy multitasking while editing/designing
Secondary
- Run Norton Antivirus scans and software updates while doing non-gaming tasks without much lag
- Photoshop high res images
- Web design (Expression Web)
Tertiary
- Edit and render HD video (Sony Vegas)
- 3D Modelling software's for character and level design (Maya, ZBrush, 3Ds Max, UDK)

I will use dual monitors, one for a game (windowed) and the other for everything else when gaming.

Does this build seem compatible and is all the hardware a good choice and good brand (optical drive hardly matters at all)?
Am I over paying on any of the parts?

reading the pc purpose, yes it is good build

depends on your plan. if you are going to upgrade to ivy E 6 cores, using LGA 2011 is right choice
but if 3820 will be your permanent cpu, i think going with haswell 4770K will be far better

As I am not certain if I will be upgrading my processor or not in the next few years I will stick with my pick (depends on how I do with 3D modelling and how immersed I get with that).

I want to overclock my hardware when it arrives, yes.

They are the same CPU in terms of performance. but the Xeons are more stable , have more options , support more memory if using registered , and they don't overclock.

Actually the sandybridge-e i7 is a cut off version of the Xeons.

you are buying an expensive machine , and it is not PCI express 3.0 enabled , the controller is inside the CPU , and the sandy bridge i7 supports only PCIe 2.0 , the xeons support 3.0

the new IvyBrige-e coming in September will support PCI-e 3.0 , so if you insist on overclocking wait for them.

by the way PCIE 3.0 is double the bandwidth of 2.0

that is 8x 3.0 has the same of 16x 2.0and so on. it is not something to neglect.

if not , get the xeon.
