is this a good build?

I was told this by some guy and since im fairly new to this all it got me worried but i think i am fine

"Okay going with a i7 for gaming is pretty much overkill so I recommend replacing that with a i5-6500 and the motherboard with a MSI Z170A PC MATE ATX Motherboard. The RAM is also not compatiable with Skylake as it is DDR3 so I recommend buying Crucial DDR4 8GB instead."

It's a good build but if it was me I'd buy the newest technology, Skylake, for CPU, memory and motherboard. Also the power supply could be better quality for such a nice build. I'd get the EVGA Supernova 650 G2, made by Super Flower, for top quality and dependability.

If by streaming you mean you will be streaming yourself playing games then you really want to keep the i7, also helpful for rendering.

is there anyway you guys could suggest what cpu then and other things? like i said im not the most experienced with all this and all this stuff is kind of confusing me now lol

Your build is correct skylake is not worth the money right now. You spend $125 more for almost no gains. Only suggestion is 16 gb of memory if you render videos often. You can get ddr3 up to 3000 mhz and a 2400 mhz kit with lower cl than the dd4 equilivent is cheaper than ddr4

i7 for gaming is a waste. Essentially, the difference between i5 and i7 is Hyper Threading, which doesn't benefit games. There is a small scaling benefit when using SLI or Crossfire, but it's small and not worth the extra cost. Besides, a single 980 is plenty of power for 1080p/1440p.

Go with the fastest i5 you can afford. It will handle a GTX 980 just fine.

For streaming or video capture, the Maxwell GPU can handle this with ease. Use the GeForce experience software to setup streaming or ShadowPlay. Much better than using the CPU and we're talking literally 1 FPS performance impact using the GPU to capture/encode video. This is true for both NVidia and AMD GPU video capture.

With Crossfire or SLI scaling maybe, but most get no benefit, and when you do its a small difference that doesn't justify the cost really.

However, I saw that he's streaming but must have missed the video rendering part. That is definitely where an i7 will help. So depending on how much rendering he does it would make an i7 worth it in this build since Adobe/Sony apps benefit from an i7 quite nicely.
