Current build:
CPU: AMD FX 8120
GPU: MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G
RAM: 12GB
Mobo: Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
--------------------------------------
Due to my previous threads the past few days, I have come to the conclusion that the Intel i5 4690k is way better than the AMD FX 9590. Because of this I have done some research and have come to the conclusion that I want my new build to be:
CPU: Intel i5 4690k
GPU: MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G
RAM: 12GB
Mobo: Asrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer

Is this a good combo?

It works so yeah! Also..I had a GTX 650Ti and then I got a GTX 970 for christmas and I thought that I would see a huge performance increase but I seen none at all..would that be because of the fact that its a PCIE 3.0 card and I am using it in a PCIE 2.0 slot? If so, the new motherboard has a 3.0 slot. If it was because my current CPU is horrible, then hopefully I will see an increase with my new processor!

That's odd, it should have be very noticeable increase in performance.
As for the pcie 3 vs 2 - https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/ - There is no impact.
Do you plan to overclock?
i5 4690k + gtx 970 will handle most of the modern games at high/ultra setting with very enjoyable fps.

Why is the FPS in that link so low? I get 60+ FPS in Hitman: Absolution as it is now. Also I see no reason to overclock my GPU...

Well, cause they are using ultra preset with x8 MSAA and old Titan GPU.
Do you plan to overclock CPU, that's what i meant.

I use the Ultra preset, too, and I have a GTX 970. Hmm,weird. Anway..yeah I would like to overclock it but I am scared I will somehow fry something. What's the highest safe point for an overclock on the i5 4690k?

Well, in my subjective opinion, OC is not worth it (up to 5% increase in performance). I'd save money, and get i5 4590 + h97 motherboard, it will be the same good gaming combo, you probably wouldn't notice any difference in performance between i5 4590 and i5 4690k OC.

I already have my mind set on the i5 4690k and the Fatal1ty Z97 Killer board, thanks for all of the help.
