Is this a good CPU Upgrade?

Hi so I have a Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.20 Ghz with 1Mb of L2 Cache.
How much of a performance boost would I get if I upgraded to a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9505 2.83 Ghz 6Mb of L2 Cache? The CPU is and will be backed up with 4GB (2x2) of DDR2 Ram @400Mhz.
Is it bad because I don't have L3 Cache?
I don't game much, just the usual torrent downloading, web surfing, but what I do is Video Render. Is 2.83 Ghz enough? I work with True HD (1080p I think) so I want no lag.
Is the Q9505 good or is there better ones out there with the same price range? Am I settling for low performance?

Any help will be appreciated.

But I can't upgrade my motherboard, if I did I basically have to start building from scratch. I'm just 14 so I don't really have money nor can I earn. A CPU upgrade is what I need right now.

First of all do you want to buy a new processor?? If so then it's a bad idea to get Core 2 Quad. There are pretty reason why I'm saying that
1. It's a backdated processor with LGA 775 socket.
2. There are pretty good chances are that you can't get a decent motherboard for that socket.
3. Max 8GB DDR3 ram suppot @1333MHz, Max 1600MHz.
4. last of all video rendering it's behind the line.
So, Go for atleast Core i3/i5 3rd or 4th Gen if you are on a tight budget.

Joseph is right, A Q9505 is an old CPU. But it was a poor answer as it doesn't give any details.

However if this is your only option to upgrade the existing CPU (New builds can be pretty expensive) Your no gaming means the CPU only has to crunch numbers in video rendering.

While an i5/i7 FX-8350 will do this much faster a Q9505 will in no way be slow compared to the E2200 your currently using.

My old system was a Q6700 & 4GB RAM and it wasn't slow and certainly didn't struggle with "Today's" applications. I had a GTX 260 and it still games well.

Is it the fastest? No.. Will it serve your purpose 100% better than what you have Yes!

There is always something bigger and better around every corner. but that doesn't suit everybody. Not everyone needs the "Latest" in Tech to work.

Also on a side note. most graphics cards now have the option to help in video rendering using their own processing units. i.e AMD Advanced Post Processing.

A good second hand graphics card will also give a new life

I don't really fancy chasing the latest Tech everytime. I feel like the Quad core would do a decent job as it's 4 physical n so 4 logical too. Or is hyper-threading always better?

Hyperthreading in my opinion isn't worth the cost to have it, Sure it can help increase processing power... but unless the applications are porperly coded to take full advantage of Intel's Hyperthreading then it won't do any favours. I've seen tests where i7's with disabled hyperthreading scored better in benchmarks.

There's going to be a lot of pressure on forums from people telling you that Core2 series is now the worst there is and if you have anything less than an i-series processor your not going to be able to use any CPU intensive apps.

Don't listen, its a monumental step up from what you have. go with it

it's definitely a decent upgrade on that socket. Be sure to get it for the right price though, it's not always smart to invest in older tech :)

I've seen the Q9650 sell for crazy prices on ebay (you could get an ivy bridge i5 and mobo for the same price...)

Could you perhaps, link them to me? :bounce:

Tell me your exact motherboard model and what country you are in please

You did not list your motherboard. Just because it is a 775 socket does not mean that it will support any socket 775 cpu. You should determine what motherboard you have, check the manufacturer's web site for supported cpu's, then decide if the performance increase is worth the cost (to you). Your motherboard may or not support a Core2Quad.
