Hi I’m very new to pc’s (switching from ps4) and I’m deciding whether or not to build my own pc. I’ve looked a bit on Craigslist and found an intriguing one. Here is his list of the specs...
Cpu: amd ryzen 7 1800x.
Ram: ddr4 gskill 16gb ddr4 3200 kit. I have it running at 3100 mhz at the moment.
Cpu cooler: cooler master liquid lite 120 water cooling. Stays around 43 degrees celius.
Motherboard: asus rog strix b350F gaming board. I used artic silver on the cpu for the thermal paste in this build.
Bluetoothe dongle: asus bluetooth 4.0 usb. So you can hook up all of your wireless bluetooth accessories to the machine.
Graphics card: MSI rx 480 8 gb gaming X graphics.
Has a 120 gb solid state drive and also a 1 terabyte mechanical 7200 drive.
The processor is an 8 core 16 thread.
...
He is also including a 27” Acer 144hz freesync monitor and a CORSAIR mouse and keyboard.. the price of all of this is $900.

Would you recommend building my own? Is this a great deal? Thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you!:)

At least he has a freesync monitor with an amd graphics card. Most people will have an nvidia graphics card w/ a freesync monitor(not compatible). Curious though as to why he has an 1800x cpu and a b350 motherboard(normally you'd want an x370 motherboard w/ that cpu - overclocking purposes).

Regardless though, that's a decent deal for craigslist. It's at least cheaper then if you bought all those parts new and put it together yourself(of course you don't get the satisfaction of saying "i built it!")

Your opinion of this for 500 dollars? I apologize that i'm so new to pc's lol. I really don't know what to be looking for.

Specs
Motherboard - ASUS CROSSHAIR V FORMULA
CPU - Intel Core i7 3770k @4.6 GHz
GPU - EVGA reference design NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 780 Ti
RAM - 12GB of Corsair Vengeance
CASE - Corsair SPEC-02 Redshift with window (New)
Storage - 120GB SSD (New)
650 watt 80plus bronze certified power supply (New)
Windows 10 Pro (Licensed copy, connected to the board).

The problem with "very new to pc’s" and "craigslist" is...do you know how to fully test it before money changes hands?

I see problems in both systems that need to be clarified:

System 1
- 120mm liquid cooler is mostly useless. Sounds good, but no better than a good air cooler for 1/3 the proce
- 120GB SSD is kind of small for the OS drive
- Unknown PSU
- OS?

System 2
- 128GB SSD. Especially if that is the only drive.
- Unknown PSU. 650 watts 80+ tells us nothing
- older processor
- 12GB RAM is sort of an odd configuration

And of course, actual operation. Being new, do you know what to look for?
Either might be "OK", or either might be total junk, and barely running.

I definitely need some help because I know little to nothing about specs. My friend who is an avid pc user and builder says to stay away from craigslist. I just don't want to overspend for my first pc. I also do not have a keyboard or mouse or monitor which is why I was interested in craigslist. I was also looking into buying a prebuilt one from someone like cyberpower. Is that a good option? Some games I am looking to play are fortnite, battlefield, and red dead redemption. They have a prebuilt for $760 that has..
Windows 10 Home
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Processor
GeForce® GT 1030 2GB GDDR5
8GB ADATA XPG Z1 3000MHz RAM
1TB SATA3 7200 RPM HD
MSI X470 GAMING PLUS AM4 RGB Motherboard
CyberpowerPC ONYXIA Mid-Tower Gaming Case
Thank you for your in-depth reply btw

Unfortunately, a new CyberPower is probably worse.
Not joking. The Mod team here actually has a long running discussion of how bad they can be.

I highly encourage you to actually build one.
If you're up to it, people here can come up with a viable parts list within your budget.
And guide you into the assembly. It's actually easier than you might think.

Are you up for it?

Yes absolutely! Where do we begin?

Thanks for the guidance. Here is the link to my new thread http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3742022/time-building-recommendations-guidance.html
