Hello all

I'm looking to replace my old, slow Dell xps desktop with a newer pre-built.
I've found this Acer Aspire at £499.
I use the PC mostly for playing music, watching YouTube, movies, Office, Photoshop, Atom and a few other apps.
I don't play games. So, I'm not sure if a better/dedicated (more expensive) GPU would make much difference or would be worth it to me.

The Aspire comes with an i5 11400 Processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD. Windows 11 ...

Given the requirement, would you say it's a good deal or should I avoid it?

Solution
For Photoshop use, 8GB RAM is pretty slim. (speaking from experience)
I'd see about changing that to 16GB.

As for the rest...hard to say because they don't give specifics.
"1TB SSD" is pretty generic.
Crappy 3rd rate SATA, or reasonable quality NVMe?
(I'm guessing the former)

But, at £499, there isn't a lot of difference between brands and components.

Thanks for that. I'll definitely change that.

Yeah, it's the SATA for sure. But even a crappy SSD should perform much better than an HDD, I guess.

I'm not sure what you mean here but thanks.

Yes, a solid state performs better than an HDD.
But...by 'crappy, I was referring to longevity and reliability.
Most SAYA III SSDs perform quite the same. For how long is the key issue. There are some I wouldn't buy on a bet.

By "not a lot of difference"....any other £499 thing you find in a retail store like Currys or competitors will be mostly the same.

While the CPU isn't quite as fast, the IGP is far better, also this is considerably cheaper, giving you more money for ram.

Sorry for the late reply but I was considering the pros and cons. I had already made up my mind on the Acer but after much thought, I went with the Lenovo.
The one on Amazon for some reason didn't inspire confidence but I found one on another site at £499. It comes with a 1x 16GB UDIMM DDR4-3200 RAM, and 512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe.

I'm very grateful for your contribution. Thank You so much.
