Is this a good first build?

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4440-vs-AMD-FX-6300

If you want to overclock, the 6300 appears to be better. It also has a larger L3 cache, is cheaper, and will give you a higher frequency of RAM. However, the i5 can handle more heat, and uses less power and will apparently save you money with your energy bill. In short, if you're planning on overclocking, I'd go with the FX 6300. If you're not, then stay with Intel.

Dude he`s getting a non-k cpu and a non-z chipset board... Of course he`s not planning on overclocking. The i5 is fine man, it`s a good gaming cpu.

In a gaming build, a graphics card only influences graphics. The CPU still has to process the information.

Also, do not buy an XFX, PowerColor, or Diamond card. If you can buy something other than Sapphire, you should, but if not, then Sapphire is alright. PowerColor has been getting better, but they're still not up to par with Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte. PNY makes some good cards occasionally, but not consistently. XFX is notorious for using cheap components, as well as Diamond and PowerColor. If it looks like cheap plastic, don't buy it. Generally, the more expensive looking the card, the better it is. This isn't always the case, but it's a good base rule to go by. The R9 280X is a good processor, but don't get it from XFX. I suggest Gigabyte. They make really durable stuff that may not be the fanciest, but it works really well. Asus does really well, but they're usually more expensive. MSI usually straddles the line between durability and looks. They're kind of the middle when compared to Gigabyte and Asus.

Dude, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just pointing out options, geez. And the Mars 760x2 (Dual GPU, not Dual card) would probably be a good option as well. The 960 does work well enough though. Shouldn't have any major problems.

Thanks for the help guys, will consider switching psu, but will prob stick with the i5 and Msi gtx 960.

Just making sure all the parts I picked where a good choice for the money, and will work together well for gaming

In that case yes your making a good choice! Your system will have a very low power draw so when you swap PSU, just go for better quality, don`t up the wattage. That i5 and that 960 is very power efficient.

Hahahahahaaha okay fanboy calm down... Read before you post and make assumptions...
