[SOLVED] Is this a good first pc build?

Hey I'm building my first computer so I'm still trying to piece everything together - I've got a current list which isnt complete yet (need PSU) and was wondering if anyone had any feedback (does it go together etc?) and maybe if there is a possible way of lowering the price a bit without affecting performance (if not dw)

Unfortunately, now is a horrible time to build a PC, from a price standpoint. The paper launch of next-gen CPUs and GPUs (especially GPUs) and super high demand due to COVID are pushing the prices of even last gen hardware to unreasonably high levels.

gaming but im not expecting to be playing in 4k or anything like that. Obviously i'll be using it for other things as well but nothing like streaming/video editing. And I agree, the prices are awful! but i've committed to it now.

yeah i do plan to upgrade, and i would like to go 1440p but would have to consider prices because 1440p monitors are quite expensive. i was actually debating between the X570 and the B550 not too sure about the X470

If you have no particular reason to pick the X570 go with the B550 and save a few $$$.

I'm not really a fan of Intel SSDs. The newest ones are okay - I guess, but I would go for something with higher endurance. (maybe the Corsair MP510)

Be sure to check the prices of RAM when you purchase. If you can swing 3400+ speed for just a little more money I would go for it.

It would be a shame to spend more than $399 for the RTX 3060 Ti. Make sure you don't get scalped.

The only thing I would do different is go for 3600 c16 ram...with 3200 @ c16 you will lose some system performance. I would save a few dollars by going with the B550 Aorus Elite v2 and put that money towards faster memory.

As alceryes stated above...the 3060ti is not worth anything over 400.

okay makes sense, what would you recommend for a video card then? i can get the 3060 ti for £440 from Curry's which seems a lot tbh but its been really difficult trying to find a video card for the 5 3600 thats not sold out

i was under the impression that the x570 was a better board than the B550, is the performance basically the same then? also do you have other recommendations for the video card? its been hard finding one

Have you been able to buy a 3060ti?
If so, great. It is the graphics card that is most important for games.
If you are budget constrained, and you want to buy today, look at the $125 intel i3-10100 as a budget gamer.

It includes a perfectly adequate cpu cooler.
Ram speed is limited to 2666, and ram speed will make no difference to intel anyway.
A MATX B460 based motherboard will be $80 or so.
On a budget, I think intel 665P m.2 nvme is a good choice.
You can always add storage later.

That said, if you can wait a bit, intel rocket lake is about to launch.
No doubt the K suffix processors with a 19% IPC boost will get all the press.
But, there will be lesser processors without overclocking capabilities that should be of interest to a budget builder.

RAM speed does seem to make a difference on Intel. 10100 has an iGPU, no need for that, if going for i3, 10100F is better.

I would rather get a B550 Aorus Elite V2 like @dorsai suggested. The Freezer 34 esports duo at $50 does way better than the H212 RGB. Instead of the 665p, the Kingston A2000 is a good budget choice. The WD SN550 is not bad either.

I also agree with @alceryes's suggestion. 3600 CL16/ 3200 CL14 is the best price-performance RAM for Ryzen. Ripjaws V is usually nice and cheap.

I'm not sure about the Asus Dual OC. the FE or Gigabyte cheap end cards are usually better than Asus cheap end.

For the PSU, Corsair RM650x is a great choice.

There is zero performance difference between x570 and B550...the B550 PCI-E slot and m.2_1 slot are the same speed as x570.

As far a video card I can only say what I did when my Vega card died last month...I refused to pay the scalper pricing on new cards and bought a last gen 5700xt to get me through the next year with the hope that by next Christmas the 6800 or 3080 will be available at msrp pricing.

Just go B550, there's no reason to get a X570 unless you need the extra PCIe lanes / USBs... which on the B550 are plenty.
Also if you want to cut more costs, drop the CPU cooler, AMD does good stock coolers.

okay thanks for your response, ive changed my motherboard to a b550. for the PSU, the RM650x and the RM750 are the same price atm, which one is best to get?

The 650x is slightly higher quality, albeit very slightly, almost negligible. You can buy the 750 if you want the headroom
