is this a good gaming laptop?

My friend gave me his laptop and I'm wondering if its a good gaming laptop and if it is what parts can I get to make it better and faster. Toshiba Satellite M45-S265 1GB Ram, single core Pentium mobile processor Intel 915 chipset, 80 GB HDD it has windows 7 so the video card is not working.

No, horrible laptop. I haven't seen a single core in a long time, but all newer games require dual core and most new good games need quad core. Theres no dedicated graphics card so newer good games are also completely out the question as even the newest on board graphics cards cant handle it.
As far as upgrading, normally with laptops especially Toshiba, you might be able to upgrade ram and/or harddrive, but neither of those upgrades will net you playable gaming.
