Is this a good gaming pc for a beginner?

I'm looking into getting a gaming pc as my high school graduation present and i'm not exactly sure what's good and what isn't. I do have a budget and i'm only looking at computers cheaper than $1,000 Maybe slightly less because I need to buy a monitor also. I'm sort of open to it. I'm sure with many video tutorials I could do it, i'm a little intimidated because i've been a console person all my life and am not very familiar with all of the parts. if you can suggest parts for me then that'd be great. I'm looking for something that can crush a console but not overkill. Excuse my ignorance if I sound stupid but I'd just like something so I can start out strong but can upgrade in the future. I'm mostly going to be playing Overwatch and BF1 and hopefully most of the newer releases at a decent frame rate.

Yeah it's fairly easy, especially if you go with a stock CPU cooler.

If you have a budget of around $1000 (including the monitor) and you mostly want to play BF1 and Overwatch I would do something like this:

Overwatch prefers Nvidia so we went with the 1060. The Skylake was chosen instead of Kaby Lake in order to keep cost down, same with the H110M (still a nice budget board). This comes with an SSD and 1tb of storage as well as 16gb of memory. Lastly we have a 144Hz monitor which is ideal for fast paced FPS games.

The other option for you right now is to wait a couple of weeks for some benchmarks with the new AMD Ryzen 5 line to see where they are in the price and performance sphere. But either way the build above is a solid performer.
