Is this a good gaming setup?

Solution
Not sure why you need a bluray drive. That could be downgraded to a standard dvd drive if you want to.

The hitachi HDD should be changed to either a seagate barracuda or WD blue in my opinion. I'm not sure where hitachi stands on the reliability area. But I think they're on the lower end of the durability side.

Aside from those two things, everything seems pretty good.

You're build is good, Although if you could stretch another $100 i would go for sli 970's, As the 980 is overpriced and SLI 970's would nearly double the performance (as the 980 is only 15% faster than a single 970)

This build is much better.

This is a phenomenal setup, and you won't have any problems playing at ultra.

Are you sure you'd rather buy a 144hz, 24" monitor and not a 60hz that's a little bigger with better resolution? There's an "Acer K272HULbmiidp Black 27"" that occasionally sells for $300 on Newegg, and although the latency is 6ms instead of 1ms it's a 60hz, 27", 1440p monitor. I'd only recommend it if you wouldn't mind a lower refresh rate and don't plan on installing emulators.

I think the i5 would do just fine. There really isn't a much of a difference between the i5 and i7 as far as I'm aware. Maybe things are changing, i don't really know. But in a multicard system, the i7 does help to relieve potential bottlenecks. Overclocking the i5 also relieves these bottlenecks, really your choice OP.
