Coding has three phases. Text Entry. You want a comfortable keyboard and display. Build/Deploy. You want as much CPU, memory and disk performance as possible. Runtime. Resources depend on the application.
Only you can determine if the laptop meets the first phase. The 8GB RAM is kind of small for phase 2. Unknown on the third phase.
You also need to ensure you have appropriate backup processes in place.
