im want to get the Corsair RM850 PSU. is this a good one?

The RM850W is one of the very few RM units that are decent quality. So yes, it's a solid PSU.

They tend to be really overpriced though. Where are you shopping from? It's very likely there's a similar quality unit for less.

So Canada PCPartpicker has that PSU at $174... is that what you're looking at? Because that's stupidly over priced. Corsair seem to do that because people pay for the brand, even though their PSUs are a real mixed bag.

Can you use Mail-in rebates? Do you really need 850W?

Even if the rebates are no good to you, paying full price for those models is still far cheaper than that Corsair model for similar quality units.

That's the only other decent RM unit... in fact it's a very nice unit. But $180... ouch!

What's wrong with the ones I linked above? It's your money, spend it however you like, but that's just money down the drain IMHO.
