Is this a good PC build

Solution
NZD prices are expensive as hell. Donno how you plan to build that list of yours within $2000 including monitor. If you are getting some deal on that, i would say, stick to your build. Else this is the minimum in NZD...

at this resolution, ryzen would be faster, and beat the intel for coding as well (unless its single thread).

WD ist as reliable as they shsould (atm) so i would go with samsung/hitachi maybe toshiba.

the gpu doesnt need to be oc, but needs custom cooling to get highest clock the chip can do.
i recommend looking at a used/refubr on amazon/microcenter preferable the msi gaming or zotac amp.

psu's are the most important part, as nothing works without it, and lots of stuff can get damaged from low quality ones.
names dont mean much, since most brands are not making the units themselves.

platinum rated ones are normally good (no matter what brand), i prefer evga/seasonic/corsair (ax, non i series).
even that the corsair Ax series is made by seasonic, all test show the corsairs are on the "newer" platform and are a bit better performing (vs the SS one).
check with a microcenter around you, lots will carry a refurb one for cheap.

this is lots faster incl the ssd, has 8 cores 16 threads and the 3000 ram helps when you oc the cpu to 4ghz (should work with auto settings in bios and multi to 40), then it even passes 6800/6900K.
monitor is larger, so no need for UW. 144Hz needs gsync or screen tearing isnt worth the high fps. unless you need the lowest latency.
and depending on the game, the 1070 might not be fast enough..

Ryzen is not recommended for gaming. Not the R7 atleast. More on that from page 13 onwards... http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3327589/amd-ryzen-megathread-faq-resources.html

DDR4 3000 doesnt work with AM4 at rated speed.

I am using WD for the past 7 yrs. Works like a charm.

EVGA Supernova platform is also made by Seasonic. The monitor in my list is 144hz, which aptly compliments the 7700k/1070 build. I am using it currently in one of my builds with that combination. No issues whatsoever.

@Hellfire13
at 1080p maybe, not when playing at 1440p and higher.
but hes also coding, and ryzen will give him better performance for that, more than the intel will ever deliver.
and your recommended setup even includes a 1440p moni, so yeah, lol about you complaining at 1080p gaming performance..

besides that, your comparing a cpu/desing that was heavily optimized over the past decade (bios/software/games),
to a brand new design that was released a few days ago.
the intels wont see any real improvements, ryzen will gain a lot over the next few month,
which will then even be the better choice for 1080p gaming.
not sure why you would recommend something that is ahead for another couple of month (only), and wont even be anywhere close to ryzen when doing other stuff than gaming.
not even talking about intel being so cheap and trying to mil customers even more by using TIM instead of solder (please give me 2 more reasons to do that, besides saving money), when amd does solder it...

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_7_1700x_review,25.html
http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-delided-gold-plated-solder-silicone-protected-caps-confirmed-cheap-tim/

multiple oced/non-oced ryzen work fine with 3000/3200 ram, and its actually the recommended speed when planing to oc the cpu.
the limit is set by the board/bios, not the cpu, so for now the max is 2667, but that will change future updates, and asus already
having a 3000 xmp/amp profile in bios, so...

when you look at the latest info from data centers, wd is the 2nd worst drive right after seagate.
just because yours is/are working (maybe 4-5 drives ?), doesnt say anything about the quality of the drives.
if i have a failure rate that is almost double of others, i dont recommend the brand (until i have info stating otherwise).

the evga is not made by seasonic. its either HEC/Superflower or FSP.

http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page2293.htm

everyone i know that has a +100Hz moni is either back to vsync/gsync and higher graphic/image quality, rather than fps.
besides that, the poster never specified the games.
so i wont recommend a +144HZ moni that will only have an advantage when playing FPS/getting payed for money, and would completely be a waste of money running a RTS for example.

@EBro_o
i normally recommend stuff that will be a little more, so you dont need to "upgrade" in a year or two.
it would be easy to go with a oced 1060/6gb from msi/zotac/asus and save about 150$ while its still good for 1440p gaming,
as long as you dont use high quality settings in the game.

what do you plan to play? what screen size (1080p res is good for up to 24", larger and you would need to go with 2560x1440).

And uhh pc part picker is in USD (Us dollars) and i live in Australia so the price goes up if i keep adding stuff, thats why i choose that monitor cause it was in AUD (Australian dollars) though there is 2 other moniters i was looking at and it will save me money. Thanks for the help

k.
at res of 1440p (recommended, if the screen is bigger than 24", or the "screen door" effect gets visible), the amd will be faster,
while consuming less power, producing less heat, so for the beginning you just use the stock cooler.
later switch to AIO for ocing/better temps..

i do recommend looking for a used msi gaming/ zotac amp, as they have the best cooling on the market (FLIR cam),
which will allow them to clock around 2ghz on boost, no matter which one.

if you can wait a little, the upcoming 6 core ryzen would be cheaper..

you can drop the psu to a evga g2, if needed.

My oh My...another AMD Fanboy defending Ryzen which is already doomed like Faildozer... :D

Ok so lets start with some hard hitting facts... shall we...

> How badly Ryzen has failed the gaming benchmarks...all current game benchmarks on page 13... http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3327589/amd-ryzen-megathread-faq-resources/page-13.html

> "Gamerk is right. This problem has been known since Canard PC got an engineering sample and tested it. Canard found Ryzen to perform like a i5 in games.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/french-magazing-posts-...

The problem is not in the engineering sample. Before launch Canard tested a qualification sample for the 1800X and got the same conclusion: bad performance in games. They also claim the problem is not SMT, but the memory controller

https://twitter.com/CPCHardware/status/8363467772677611...

And reviews find the same gaming problem in retail chips, with SMT not being the problem, because disabling it gives little benefit or even reduces gaming performance

http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2822-amd-ryzen-r7-...

Gamerk is also right on the relation between AMD and reviewers. From gamersnexus review:

Quote:
When we approached AMD with these results pre-publication, the company defended its product by suggesting that intentionally creating a GPU bottleneck (read: no longer benchmarking the CPU’s performance) would serve as a great equalizer. AMD asked that we consider 4K benchmarks to more heavily load the GPU, thus reducing workload on the CPU and leveling the playing field. While we fundamentally disagree with this approach to testing, we decided to entertain a mid-step: 1440p, just out of respect for additional numbers driven by potentially realistic use cases. Of course, in some regard, benchmarking CPUs at 4K would be analogous to benchmarking GPUs at 720p: The conclusion would be that every GPU is “the same,” since they’d all choke on the CPU. Same idea here, just the inverse.

The (non-official) information I heard is that solving the memory controller latency problem is in the to-do list for Zen+. AMD tell us a different history in public. AMD says that the problem is the lack of optimization and that software patches will solve the game problem. Time will say... "

> "Ryzen is struggling to hit 4Ghz in some reviews including paulshardware, Steve's reviews are always like that he has no preference he doesn't sugar coat anything it's simple data and science(As a Nintendo fan i think he made me cry in one video about the switch lol). If anything he was being nice 1800X is indeed performing like a 230$ I5 in gaming on average but out performing a 6900K a decent amount of time in everything else least from my perspective.

https://youtu.be/SE4sxXva9Eg?t=795

13:15 in More proof from Jayztwocents so happy others are calling this stuff BS i have to say nice job Reviewers i'm very proud of them

Also i'm happy to say Jay mentioned that yes some issues are happening in software as he proved it in heaven benchmark"

> "Some of us have known, before launch, that Ryzen has a problem with latency sensitive workloads, including games. We talked about that before launch:

https://twitter.com/CPCHardware/status/8363467772677611..."

> ""r7s will almost never beat the 7700k, which is true of the 6900k btw. the lower clock speed having 8 cores couses means unless the game is very well multithreaded, the fewer cores, but higher clock speed i7 will win. "

https://www.computerbase.de/2017-02/cpu-skalierung-kern...

Nope a 6900K meets a 7700K in every modern title over games using 8 cores and in some the 6900K beats it

However a 8 core Ryzen part fails to do the same

http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2822-amd-ryzen-r7-...

I'm telling people the 4 and 6 core parts will look worse(as a lot of modern games can make use of 8 core) and i highly doubt we will see that big of a clock speed advantage on these parts.

Also the 6900K has less IPC and less of a clock speed compared to the 7700K while meeting or beating it. Guess i'm gonna copy this so i don't have to keep typing this over and over again."

If you need more proof of Ryzens gaming failure, read all about it here... http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3327589/amd-ryzen-megathread-faq-resources/page-17.html

As to your other opinions, Ryzen is not only failing on SMT and bios part, but also struggling with its memory controller. The boards have just been released with memory specifications and you are already suggesting something which even the manufacturers dont back. Not the way to go.

Monitor is fine for GTX 1070...1070 can output that resolution at that refresh rate pretty easily with DSR in Nvidia control panel.

Also WD is one of the better brands out there and tried and tested more than Hitachi and Toshiba

Your PCPP list was in USD and you never mentioned Australia before. So whats your total budget including monitor in AUD??? Maybe I can compile a better list for you. Otherwise your list is pretty ok.

NZD prices are expensive as hell. Donno how you plan to build that list of yours within $2000 including monitor. If you are getting some deal on that, i would say, stick to your build. Else this is the minimum in NZD...

Why is the graphics card $500 in yours but $350 in mine, btw the build altogethor is $1450 AUD and the im gonna go with a 29 inch ultra wide which is $425 cause there on sale so altogether its just below $2000
