Solution
A GTX980 runs about like a GTX1060, which is still quite adequate for most 1080P gaming...

Certainly a B450/R5-2600X is quite capable of nice gaming as well...

(The 128 GB SSD is increasingly barely adequate in size for even the OS/core applications these days, I'd look for a 1 TB NVME SSD on sale when you get a chance; Intel's 660P is sometimes as low as $95 for a 1 TB unit, barring any Corona-virus price hikes, anyway)

would it be a good system to upgrade to from my ancient fx 8320 or would it produce the same proformance

It won't be the same for sure. But a ryzen 7 is always a better solution for gaming. As mdd1963 said , that your graphics card is very close to gtx 1060. It depends on the games you wanna play, dont expect the best performance on 1080p and high settings. But , it will be all fine for the next few years.
