Recently got an Xbox One so I can game with my non PC friends and family. I have a 2009 Philips TV 42" 1080P. Which is already nice enough but Overscan can not be disabled and knowing that makes gaming on it hell. So I figured I could just buy a new one here soon after a couple pay checks. Here is what I am looking at.

My biggest concern is the input lag. I can't find info on that but considering it goes up to 240Hz not sure if it would be a problem or not. So I am pretty much asking, does this seem like the right kind of TV to game on?

Also, if you own an M series Vizio can you turn off overscan? I know it isn't that big of an issue for newer TV's but I would flip shit if it didn't have that setting like my Philips.

High refresh rate TV's do not translate to low input lag. They often have the worst input lag, as they don't actually support 240hz input, but instead, take 60hz input, and do some processing to create filler frames. This adds a lot of latency, but they usually offer a PC mode, which will behave more traditionally, and limit you to 60hz.

For gaming on TV's, I have no idea where to look for reviews which will tell you the latency, but at least make sure they offer a PC mode. And 60hz is all your Xbox One will use anyway.

Yeah, that's why I asked, wasn't sure if refresh had anything to do with input lag. The 240Hz was just a bonus for certain things that could potentially make use of it because we all know these new consoles will never hit 120fps, let alone 240 in a million years. But thanks for the info.

Refresh rate, in PC gaming, can effect total lag, due to allowing faster updates, but that also requires higher FPS, and a display that can actually display higher than 60hz. TV's, no matter what refresh rate they claim, almost never go past 60hz for gaming. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Man that is such BS. I never knew that. I don't know much about displays to begin with obviously lol but still. I hate that so many things get advertised as something pretty much false... Luckily I am not buying it for the refresh rate. Just a good deal for me with 1080P 50" with the super low profile design.

The TV does have a PC mode and support said "We do not have access to that information" regarding input lag.....LMAO. Oh well, I can deal with it, I rather have a little more lag than have my picture cut off. Thanks for the help.

For TV use, those high refreshes do offer something, it just isn't useful for PC gaming. What they do is take 60 FPS, and generate frames with fancy algorithms to fill in the blanks, but this causes a lot of latency, and not as crisp and accurate as a 120hz monitor can generate.
