I have a Dell Inspiron 546 Computer with win 10 O/S using a dell IN2030M Monitor. Over time after turning the computer on I would get a series of green lines on top of the screen with rose colored lines right under the green lines and in about 30 seconds, I would get the sign on screen and that has been the routine until today (12/23/22).
Today I turned the computer on and walked away thinking that when came back would go through the usual routine and I would be on the way to mu usual computer day, When I came back, I noticed the monitor on/off switch light was orange instead of white, so I just clicked it on and in a couple of seconds it turned itself off. So now I'm wondering if I have a computer problem or has my monitor gone bad?
Next, I disconnected the VGA cable from the computer and turned the monitor on. Initially i got a screen that went through a series of colors taking up the inner portion of the screen surrounded by a border of a neutral color much like if you made the screen one color and the ran a series of different colored fuzzy balls over that background. One at a time that would evolve into that wandering block with title of the Model # of then monitor saying no VGA Cable and that the display will go into Power Save Mode in 5 minutes and it does and all of that happens on a black background.
Next, I'm wondering what would happen if I hooked up the monitor back to the computer, I did just that and turned the monitor on and in a couple of seconds, it turned itself off. So now I need help with this to determine what went bad, the computer or the monitor ?
Note: The series of colors that ( explained that the monitor went through only happened once and that was the first time I turned the monitor on after I disconnected it from the computer. After that, all I get is the wandering block on a black background.
