Ok you all know I have been looking for a basic laptop now. The last one I found is the one I'm opting to buy. I don't care how "old" it is. I just want to know if it looks ok for basics: word documents, internet, etc.

Brand: HP 6510b
CPU: Intel core duo 2.1 ghz
OS: Windows Vista Business
RAM: 2 GB
Hard drive: 100 GB
GPU:?

I so't know what the GPU is, but it shouldn't be a problem for general stuff. I plan on adding more RAM especially since it's vista. I hope this will be ok. The seller has been rated five stars out of over 8,000 people, and the product has a 90% rating, both which make me feel more comfortable.

Something like that - one has to know the price as well. That's a pretty old computer, Vista is a resource hog. and the hard drive is *really* small.

I saw a nice Lenovo Laptop (G50?) on sale at Best Buy for about $330 yesterday. Try getting this if you can, I think that's pretty god for the price.

Just don't buy any extended warranty, and don't let the Best Buy Geek Squad do *anything* at all to it. Take it sealed out of there and then use it like that.

I should if said something but I do not do chromebooks, because they are only good for internet. I want something I can use without a connection to watch dvd's, and use word documents. Also chromebook doesn't have a disk drive. And I also will not take Windows 8.

Oh no no way. I've had windows 8 on BOTH my desktop and gaming laptop. I've tried everything, start buttons, aero etc. Still absolutely hate it!

Well what is it specifically that you hate about it? I hate metro, but classicshell makes it go away for 99% of my use.

I do hate windows 8 as well, and I work on a few servers that have windows 2012 (windows 8 but for servers) and I CAN'T put classic shell on them, and it frustrates me to no end whenever I have to use a program that's not already on my desktop, or simple things like LOGGING OFF.

BUt again, classicshell fixes all of that, and allows me to use the improved features of windows 8 that I don't see, and some that I do, like the new task manager.

Well, I do dislike the metro, but it's just that even with classic shell its hard to navigate. And I like having the real start button, aero glass, etc. Windows 8 ok fr a tablet, but not a pc.

I have a real start button, then only thing I'm missing is glass, which really doesn't do anything anyways except let you see thru the your toolbars, which is a waste of processing power anyways really:
