an msi gtx 960 to a msi gtx 1070? if so, is it much of an upgrade, ie; will it improve FPS and higher ingame quality setttings by much?

Perfect. You will be able to max out all game settings at 1080p and many at 1440p. Google "GTX 1070 game benchmarks" to see what king of improvement you can expect.

Look at it this way: A GTX 1070 is generally on par with (and sometimes better than) a GTX 980Ti and GTX Titan X. That's performance that would've cost you $650 to $1000 with the previous generation of graphics cards, for only ~$430.

I'm planning on upgrading my 7950 to a 1060, already have a 960 in my htpc which performs similar to the 7950. 1070 is a considerable upgrade to the 960, even the 1060 will bee a noticeable improvement, which is why I'm planning to go that route. The 7950 is showing its age now.

Probably a good upgrade then! Only built my computer a few months ago so still learning about all this jazz! Hope the 1060 works out
