Is this ASUS monitor any good?

5 ms response times are just fine for monitors. This is no longer the year 1995.

As for future proof... Are you saying you never, ever want to have to buy a new monitor? You know as well as I do that you will need to upgrade at some point. There is no future proof except in your dreams.

Do consider this. On all new models of video cards from now on, there will only be DisplayPort and/or HDMI ports. No more VGA. No more DVI. Only DP and HDMI.

So make sure your monitors have at least one of those ports. Or in a few years you will be forced to buy a new monitor when you buy a new video card.

I'm not overall fussed on the 5ms as I'm not competitive, but do you think it would still be noticeable for casual gaming? Thanks for the recommendation! :)

About the resolution and size, 2560sx1440 is not recommended on 24". Everything will be too small, icons, etc.
I would rather take 1920x1080 for 24" and 2560x1440 for 27".
The monitor it self, it is a good all-rounder monitor for both working and gaming. The color reproduction is good, fast enough for games, etc.
It looks not only cool but the thin bezel helps if you wanna have 3 monitors setup.
The ergonomic on VX24AH could be a bit of an issue if you need or used to have monitors like U2412M or any other monitors with excellent ergonomic.
Yes, the monitor is worth the money if you can really accept the disadvantages of having 2560x1440 on 24".
You must also keep in mind that you need more GPU gaming performance to drive 2560x1440 than 1920x1080.

Another nice alternative in the price range, I found is:

This is a good all-rounder 2560x1080 IPS monitor. I dunno if you will like this monitor since this monitor is a 21:9 monitor.

I have a 29 inch, 21:9 format monitor. In other words, an ultra-wide monitor. Its resolution is 2560x1080 and runs at 60Hz. The response time is 5ms. I see absolutely no ghosting. None. I would buy this monitor again in a heartbeat. I do wish I had the 34 inch version of this, but those were not yet available when I built this system 14 months ago.

It is an AOC 2963 monitor.

Hm ok, so the smaller icons and stuff would be very problematic? I just prefer smaller displays, and the detail on a 1440p looks really good. Thank you for the recommendation anyway! :)

Someone recommended VG248QE for you, this is quite a different monitor.
VG248QE falls in the pure gaming monitor category and VX24AH in the all-rounder monitor.
This monitor is a lot better, if you plan to use it mainly for games.
This monitor is a really fast TN monitor, this is definitely something you would want for gaming monitor.
144Hz monitor is a lot better than the 60Hz one for gaming. No screen tearing and the monitor can display up to 144fps.
VG248QE is however not as good as VX24AH in term of color reproduction, viewing angle, etc.

The monitor you recommend earlier seemed like a pretty nice. Seems like a good alternative to getting 2 separate monitors. Just not sure if it would fit on my rather cramped desk I have at the moment.

ah..almost forgot..if you start to consider of getting 21:9 monitors, I have to tell you that not all games can run on 21:9 ratio.
For those games, which do not support 21:9, you will see black bars on the sides during gaming.
The black bars you see usually during watching movies on the top and the bottom of the screen will disappear, if you watch the movies on 21:9 monitors.

If you play only causally, like mentioned by Manish Tewari, an all-rounder monitor will do just fine.
I used U2412M for more than 3 years for gaming too before I bought XB270HU.

Yes. Like I said, my monitor is a 5 ms monitor, and I see no ghosting at all. And I play games every day for hours.

I did not tell him to get a 21:9 monitor. I simply stated what I have here.

I also have yet to find a game that would not run at 21:9. Most game developers have realized by now that 16:9 is not the only format on the planet. But even if there were a game that did not like 21:9, it should still run at 16:9 with black bars on the sides..

If you look carefully to several posts above, I did recommended or mentioned a 21:9 from LG :)

#LordRascus - Hope you'll let us know what you chose :) .... Just one more thing as you mentioned "'I'm looking for a good monitor, 24 inch, up to gaming, and future proof";

Just in case you change you priority to a 21:9 - As adviced by MarkW - my only suggestion would be pl go above 29" possibly get 32" if you intend to use multiple applications side by side.

And just in case you want to go to choose ASUS VG248QE as i have already suggested above. It would be amiss to mention a better option than Asus @ 100 AUSD additional :

Benq XL2430T is a much newer monitor than the VG248QE. The VG248QE has been out for awhile now and has seen no new iteration/replacement from ASUS, whereas the XL24xxT series has seen several iterations (2410, 2420, now 2430..) from BenQ to improve the process.

In case you want to go by your earlier choice of VH247AH ... in that line BenQ BL2410PT is a better choice.

Im sorry! There was a typo in there. I wish I had the 34 inch unit, not the 24... Thats a huge difference. I am 55 years old. My eyes are not what they used to be. I do wear glasses, and the reason I wish I had the 34 inch is for a couple of reasons.

1) Larger icons that the 29 inch model I have now.
2) My monitor is 1080 vertical resolution. 1440 would be nicer I think.

Sounds very amazing and very much out of my budget. But that would be an epic monitor. :O

Haha yeah, the future looks amazing for pixel enthusiasts!

LG 29"er is a good one but here is what i noticed about it, when i got my hands on one abt 2 months back:

It supports AMD's adaptive sync technology freesync.

I did not have a compatible AMD card available to me in order to test this technology, but it is indeed a nice feature included in the display if you have an AMD card. It took some research, but I found the supported Freesync range is 48-75Hz.

in short check compatibility with your gpu, if you are going for it, mainly bec of freesync

Well, both G-Sync and FreeSync monitors will function with any video card, but if you want to use those features, you need to match up Nvidia card for G-Sync, or AMD card for FreeSync.

Hopefully, someday, they will get together and merge the specs into one. Then everything will work for everyone.
