I have put together a list of parts for a budget gaming computer for about $620 and im not sure if it is a good gaming computer, my aim is to play games like overwatch, rainbow six seige, minecraft, tf2, garry's mod, etc.

All the parts are shown below and I am buying all of them on newegg.com

CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3P
RAM: Team Dark 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Storage: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST1000DX001 1TB
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Power Supply: EVGA 100-W1-0430-KR 430W
Case: DIYPC Solo-T1-BK

And just in case anyone is wondering im buying the graphics card and CPU cooler refurbished.

hi,

personally i would spend more on the GPU rather than the cpu and the RAM. you only need 8gb for now, you can always go more at a later date. the gpu is where you want to spend the $

here is what i would do with ~$620ish but that is just me. if you were after nVidia, i would try and get the 1060 (prices aren't up on pcpartpicker yet - well not ones near the RRP).

Just to clarify some more things, i actually do want the 16gb of RAM because then in the future i wont have to upgrade and also ill be using it for some tasks that require a large amount of RAM like creating and maintaining a minecraft server. I also noticed the parts list you provided has the Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8GB Video Card, which isnt actually sold on newegg and to keep things simple, i want to shop for all of my parts there. And i was also looking at the Intel Core i3-6100 you suggested and was thinking of swapping my parts lists AMD FX-8350 with a AMD FX-6300 to save some money, do you think that would hinder performance in some of the games i listed above? Or should i go with the intel processor? See the thing is, im not sure if i ever want to upgrade this PC, I could build it and then never upgrade other than maybe the GPU, and then there's the option of getting the Core i3-6100 CPU and then upgrading later on when i have the money. In your opinion, which option would you choose? And also, whats wrong with the GeForce GTX 960 GPU? Is it not powerful enough to support the AMD FX-8350? Or is it just better to have a more powerful GPU? I guess my main problem is being torn between a building a cheaper Intel PC and then upgrading down the line, or building a slightly more expensive and powerful AMD computer.

I have re-created my parts list:

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170-GAMING 3 ATX LGA1151
Memory: G.Skill NT Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Seagate 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card
Case: DIYPC Solo-T1-BK ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

I decided to use 8gb of ram because it was about 2x as cheap and i realized that a minecraft server needed at most 4gb of ram to run, and i didnt need 4x that much.

Everything else looks fine to me. But why not upgrade to i3-6300 ? it would cost extra $30 also it would give additional 0.1 Ghz + 1MB cache. Considering the fact that you're going to upgrade the cpu later, better to stay with i3-6100 and save some bucks.

Im suprised you read everything i wrote. Thanks man i appreciate it. I have one question though, what CPU should i upgrade to next? I would aim for something around $200 tops after I would get the money.

i3-6100 + gtx 960 will bottleneck in some cpu demanding games. Therefore the i5-6500 would be the next best option for that price.
Here are some clarifications between the 2 cpus :

If you can stretch your budget a little then you can have this, which is ideal for 1080p and even 1440p.

Tbh, The power supply of the OP's choice is fine because the overall Power consumption would be around 350w ? But it's better to buy a 500w PSU cuz OP will be adding some more components 😀

***Will be great if you'd consider buying rx 480(4 GB, will cost you extra $30) over Gtx 960***
*** Gtx 1060 will give you better FPS than all the other cards mentioned here but it's a quite expensive. So forget about that.***

Gtx 960(4 GB) > $211 (2 GB) >$179
Gtx 1060( 6 GB) > $245
Rx 480(4 GB) > $203 (8 GB)> $260

The OP's original PSU is average at best, and not really befitting of a gaming PC. It's ranked at tier three in the PSU tier list; www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html.

A good PSU is an investment. It'll look after your system and outlive every other component, so getting a good one is very important, especially if you'll be running a 24/7 Minecraft server.

Couldn't agree more =)

Thanks everyone, personally i dont think i can stretch the budget any farther than it already is, its $600 on newegg and im a 14-year old so it can be quite difficult to get money. So i'll probably stick to my second part list and then upgrade from there, swapping out the CPU with a Core i5-6500 and the GPU with the RX 480 as I go.
