CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive, I might get a SSD, but is it really worth it?

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I'll be using a 1080p 120hz monitor, but I should be upraded to 4k in a few months.

As for the SSD, what will you be doing with it if you had one? An SSD, especially a 120GB model, is good for being a boot drive. A larger model is good for storing applications like games and Autodesk Inventor.

Thanks. I was looking at a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB. Like you said I would put the OS on there and probably a few of my most played games, or ones with a lot of loading screens (Like Fallout or Skyrim). Is the speed boost worth the extra money? Also I was wondering what OS to get as well. Windows 7 or 8.1. What do you think? Thanks for your help

i7-4790K is a beast CPU but if you are spending all that money on a PC, I believe you should get the newest technology:

i7-6700K
Z170 motherboard
DDR4

Sweet build, all compatible, should make for a great rig, and yes I'd go a 250 SSD if it's in the budget

Using Haswell CPUs is fine. The i7-6700K only gives about a 5-10% performance boost anyway. Newest does not mean it is the better choice.

The real question is, is it worth it to you? Are you going to be utilizing the SSD's speed every time you use your PC? If you do, then an SSD is probably a component you should buy. The Samsung 850 EVO SSD is a great SSD (I got the 500GB model a week ago). As for the OS, I would just stick with Windows 7 or 10.
