Well, recently a friend of mine won the local lottery and requested me to get him a MAXIMUM Gaming PC setup, he's willing to pay + my commission since i'm the one doing the shopping + assembly & installation of the necessary stuff (Drivers, BIOS, OS etc.) and here's what i got for him Note : the list is subdue to change prior to specifications & incompatibility/poor performance)
Setup:
Mobo : MSI Z97 GAMING 7 MOTHERBOARD
GPU : MSI GTX 780Ti GAMING 3GB DDR5 384BIT
CPU : Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0Ghz 8MB Haswell Refresh
RAM : KINGSTON 8GB 1600MHZ HYPERX BLACK (KHX16C10B1B/8) memory x2
Sound Card : ASUS XONAR DSX PCI EXPRESS 7.1-CHANNEL SOUND CARD(optional)
HDD (Storage) : SEAGATE/Toshiba 4TB 5900RPM 3.5" SATA (ST4000DM000)
SSD (Main) : KINGSTON 240GB SSD HYPERX 3K x 2
PSU : ANTEC HCG-900 900W 80+BRONZE SLI
DVD-ROM : ASUS 24D3ST BLACK 24X SATA
Chasis : AEROCOOL XPREDATOR X1 BLACK FULL ATX
Liquid Cooling : COOLER MASTER SEIDON 120M ALL IN ONE LIQUID COOLER
Side Fans : Aerocool Shark Fan 14cm Red/Orange LED x 4
Speaker & Subwoofer : MICROLAB M200 2.1
Monitor : SAMSUNG 23" S23C350 LED BLK monitor
Keyboard : TT ESPORTS CHALLENGER PRO (KB-CHP001US)
Mouse : CM STORM INFERNO

Total cost : at least $2,946.49

-The sound card can be unnecessary since with the Mobo and GPU like that, i doubt that you'll need a sound card to hear clear audio but just to be sure though :)

-I'm not sure if the Mobo is one of the best out there since local PC components here is limited and quite pricey depending on the brand and model

-While the RAM, GPU & CPU is overkill the 2 SSD is quite an overkill too since for me i only need 1 SSD for paging, OS, and other stuff that needed to run the PC but the second is for installed games / softwares while the 4TB HDD is for storage like Vids/Music.

the CPU on the other hand is i think, not the best out here since again, the availability of parts here are limited to only a few pieces and brands depending on the demand of the people who buy parts from this PC hardwares.

So what do you think, is it a waste of money or an overkill or a modest setup?

Well, its certainly overkill for a cheap 1080p monitor. If you're going with a high-end video card like that, you really owe it to yourself to have a good monitor, preferably something in the 1440p + 120 Hz range.

Additionally, I'd also go with the new GTX 980 over the 780 Ti. Alternatively, two GTX 970's in SLI look like they might be a pretty great deal for high-end performance and would probably even hold up at 4K.

Though 980 / 970 is new, this GPU isn't available on my Country yet, so a 780Ti / 760 would be a safe bet til' the 980 / 970 are available here, and yeah a good monitor should be at least 120Hz in refresh rate, but it's still a rough list, i'll make some changes later on
