I am helping a young cousin with his first ever PC build. It will be primarily used for gaming but he also wants it to be good enough for whatever programming usage he might need it for next year when he's applying for engineering college. Some of the parts (marked as purchased) I am giving him as a gift (from my old PC). His budget is also somewhat limited or I would've given him my own build's configuration.

Could you peeps have a looksie at the configuration I set up below and give me the pros and cons?

Thanks!

i would suggest a better PSU, something at 750 80+ gold. You have many hard disks plus a top end graphic card. No need to have that 320Gb on and in my opinion you don't need the i7 6700k for gaming.
If your budget is there , at 1400-1500, i humbly suggest :

1) remove the cpu cooler -40
2) remove i7 6700k -359
3) add water closed loop +49! (at new egg ) http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-cpu-cooler-h60cw9060007ww
4) add i5 6600k +220-274 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80662i56600k
5) Remove 240Gb ssd -78
6) add 500gb SSD evo +147 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e500bam

roughly the same total but you will remember me, 240gb ssds are not enough now. for...

roughly the same total but you will remember me, 240gb ssds are not enough now. for example you want badly to have steam on it or at least a folder of steam games to install there, the 30-50gb game you bought like fallout4, assasins creed and so on, for fast loading (yes it is a thing now, games are slow loading for example fallout4)
I have a 240gb ssd and i have just 3 games on, i am down to 80 gb already sigh

Why the closed loop watercool? 2 reasons, 1 less affected from dust and has super low price PLUS your K cpu is unlocked you can overclock with closed eyes just pushing that multiplier up 5-6 numbers.

As for the psu, it is as i said quite low for a 980 ti, it would work but would die faster or well dont risk it.
perhaps this is a good choice due to the price drop too :)

Corsair 850 80+gold http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cp9020086
so +120

I know the PSU is the worst choice. But I already had it from an earlier build. My cousin doesn't actually have the budget to make a true gaming PC. That's why he's scavenging parts from me. Btw, this config will not be OC-ed in the near forseeable future. Keeping this in mind wouldn't the Thermaltake be an adequate PSU?
