I'm looking at buying an ROG STRIX LC 240 but I cant find any reviews anywhere
Would this be good enough for some competitive overclocking? (Mild to heavy overclocks)

Thanks for the help!

Eh, you can get one for about 100 bucks on Amazon, and it's fine for a basic i5 or Ryzen 5 system that's only going to see stock performance and preferably with no PBO enabled, but I would discourage trying to think one of these is going to give you the kind of performance you'd need for overclocking pretty much anything bigger than a Ryzen 3 or i3 these days.

Look closely too at that cooler and you'll see that it's a particularly small 240mm radiator.

You're right, the Strix is different. Even so, my opinion remains the same. Worse maybe, since that was released in mid 2019 and there doesn't seem to be a single professional review of that unit. It also looks like the Strix and the TUF LC models use the same radiator and probably the same pump, with a different external housing on the pump and some additional features on the Strix, but who knows.

Regardless, the fact there's no review for a Strix product that's over a year old speaks volumes despite having no actual information about it. Lots of unboxing videos. No professional reviews that I can find. At best, that's rather suspicious for a supposedly premium product.

Just which CPU are you going to OC, that's most important part but you left it out ???
Its just not same overclocking some low powered 4 core or beasts with 12/16 cores and not same if Intel or AMD.
In 240 range Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 is a performance king with very nice prices, anything ROG is overpriced for what they give. In one example that Arctic keeps my 3700x OC-ed to 4.4GHz under 75c.

Wow. The pricing on those coolers is still jacked!
It's the same old Asetek cooler underneath the flashy ROG stuff.

Thanks for the help

What? No.

There are high performing coolers out there without 'shelling out a organ' for it... you just leave aesthetics off the table.
Want that too, even if it performs a little less? Yeah, you're gonna pay a hefty sum for it.
I paid $129 for this cooler and my CPU barley hits 40°C, i9-10900K. SO you play how you want but a quality cooler is worth the $$.

Especially since the one he was looking at is $115.

Doing what? There's some info missing.

I agree with this, to an extent.

List me a better one and how much?
That's not what this is about.

It looks like they are about $150 right now. Still worth the investment.
Asus' ROG fluff hasn't been worth it for years.
A 240mm hybrid at a 150USD+ and it's not wiping the floor with other, more affordable 240mm units - like their own TUF, no less? Might as well get a good 280/360 for that price.
^That's what this is about.

The iCUE H150i is a 360 cooler.

My Corsair iCUE H150i CW-9060048-WW works fantastic. But $$

But if you want to play, you gotta pay.
There are good coolers that are expensive. There are BAD coolers that are expensive.

There are good coolers that are MUCH LESS expensive. There are bad coolers that are much less expensive.

Much like with power supplies, it is the EXACT MODEL, and what it is being used on, that determines whether a cooler is good or bad, based on professional review data, not on price or what some fool on Youtube (That unboxed it but lacks the PROPER standardized test facilities for adequate testing) says about it.

The iCUE H150i is a 360 cooler.
It also seriously underperforms compared to many other 360mm models. It is STILL a good choice, because while it MIGHT not perform AS good as some other models, it probably might LAST longer than some of those models in the long run. So in some cases the answer to which is better might completely rely on whether better performance now, or lasting longer, is the higher priority.

OK,

Show me the better ones? And the $$.

AND, not only does it outperform that cooler, but it also outperforms the H150i Pro as well. And it does it with just slightly lower noise levels as well.

As a matter of fact, the majority of good 280mm coolers out there will outperform the H150i Pro and the H150i Cappelix, which is somewhat better, is even more expensive than the RGB XT at around 170 bucks.

Even so, like I said before, I believe the H150i is the better quality product and will last longer before there is a failure of some kind.

I do however think that the Liquid Freezer II 280mm and 360mm are the best performance for the price. Consider, even the 280mm model outperforms the NZXT Kraken X72 360mm cooler, which itself outperforms the H150i Pro, XT and Cappelix from the reviews that I've seen, and is only 114.00.

The 360mm version is only 134.00, which is still cheaper than any of the H150i models.

Fair enough,

The CORSAIR iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX as it sits in my machine for the $129 I paid, is super quite and super cool. I will not derail this thread any further. I will post up my experience as soon as I have time.
