I can recommend some hardware in the event that you absolutely need to upgrade and can't afford a new rig:

1. Pentium E5700 @ 3.0 Ghz Dual-core
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80571E5700-Pentium-E5700-Processor/dp/B003WQ0L12

2. GTX 550 Ti PCIe

This should get Diablo 3 to a playable state but I wouldn't advise dropping too much money on your current machine, given its age.

Yes, it will. With 2ghz clock speed, it cant do that much. You need to overclock it to 3/3.2ghz. That will reduce bottleneck with mainstream gpu, like gtx550ti/HD6770. More than them, there will be high bottleneck. Even, there will be bottleneck on them with your cpu.

No. Do not worry. Diablo III is not demanding game: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/diablo-iii-performance-benchmark,3195-7.html
Your processor might be old but if it can pull 44fps in Crysis warhead & ~60fps in Left4Dead/Fallout 3, it should be able to handle Diablo III.
According to the tom's hardware review, a Phenom II X2 550 can pull 75fps in diablo III. The e2180 performs at about 60% as the Phenom II X2 550 so it is reasonable to assume it can handle at least 40fps. It should be decent gameplay.
