Intel's CPU line in a nutshell:
Celeron/Pentium - 2 cores, 2 threads
i3 - 2 cores, 4 threads
i5 - 4 cores, 4 threads
i7 4+ cores, 8+ threads
Your CPU is a 2nd generation CPU, denoted by the "2". 7th generation chips are currently being released, and are probably in the range of 50% faster. Your CPU isn't really like anything but another Core i3.
Why do you ask?
EDIT: Upgrading to an FX-6300 is a poor idea. Better to find a CPU that fits your current motherboard, rather than "upgrade" to a CPU that's just as old and requires that you replace your motherboard too.
