My ping is 23ms, my download speed is 8mb/s, and my upload speed is 1mb/s. How good is this? From what I know it's rubbish. My old internet got an 8ms ping, but only a 6mb/s download speed and the same 1mb/s upload yet seemed so much faster. What is important about ping?

Ping is just how long it takes to send and receive commands. Like if you type a into a game, the game will recognize it 23ms later. That is good ping, but not based off your internet, just your proximity to the server. Those are good speeds, not the best, but better than 6mbps. I think the American average is 2mbps?

Yes somewhere around 2.5 mbps

My friend says he has 33mb/s download speed, is he full of crap or? I had him use speedtest.net just like me so

It depends on whether he actually has that speed... I have almost 80Mbits down (FiOS).

Comcast Cable subscriber here. Did a test last night. ~5ms ping 31 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up.

It's like $140 / month with HDTV included and 3 set top boxes. I split it w/ my house mate, his GF, and my GF.

A good ping is good to have. It means that lag should be at a minimum. However, if you don't have any speed, than transfers are going to be slow.

Online gaming really doesn't use that much data. I tethered COD: Ghosts TDM on XBone to my phone for 3 hours and only used 100 MB. So ping is more what you want in gaming. but if you have someone else on the network streaming Netflix or downloading movies, you're gunna have a bad time.
