Is this dust filter overkill?

I have the Antec GX700 case which has three consecutive dust filters (1 gauze filter and 2 hives) in the front panel. I am not sure if this will allow any air to flow in. Is this bad engineering on their part? Shall I keep the front panel open?

Pics of the 3 dust filters :

Any filtration is going to restrict airflow, it's just the way it is but half decent fans will have no problems flowing enough air for good ventilation.
If you have pets in the house (I've 3 cats) you'll NEED those filters unless you like cleaning the system out every quarter!
Side note: Never seen much use for top or side fans, just two good intakes and one medium exhaust plus the PSU fan seems to keep my lightly overclocked rig pretty frosty (and it actually works out as neutral pressure). But then again I'm in cool, damp England. 😉
If you're not using the top fans covering them is a good move, if you're a little lazy, like me, a game box or CD case should do the trick, if you want to be neater make up a cardboard blanking panel...
Hi Firstrig
yes it is a bit it will restrict airflow , if you are so worried about dust in your case set your fan configuration for positive air pressure , more intake than exhaust fans
this will help reduce dust and cover your tower with a cloth when not in use
